The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl title for the second consecutive season with a win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night. And it sure did not take Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes to shift his focus to next year.

During his postgame press conference, Patrick Mahomes made it clear that he’s going to enjoy this year’s win, but then all focus begins on trying to do it again next year.

“I’m going to celebrate tonight. I’m going to celebrate at the parade,” Mahomes said postgame according to Pro Football Talk. “Then, I’ll do whatever I can to be back in this game next year and try to go for that three-peat. It’s an ongoing thing in the NFL. Once you win that championship, you have those parades and you get those rings, and then you’re not the champ anymore. You have to come back with that same mentality.”

As he explained this mentality, he had a pretty clear message to Tom Brady as he explained that he’s seen this mentality in him, calling him “the greatest of all time.”

“I’ve learned from guys like [Tom] Brady who have been the greatest of all time, at the top of the level. That’s my mindset. I’m going to celebrate with my guys for how we’ve done this, but then we’re going to work our way to get back to this game next year,” Mahomes said.

Mahomes is now chasing Brady, so it makes sense that he would want to learn from this mentality.
