Over the past several months, the debate regarding whether or not transgender women should be allowed to compete in sports in accordance with their gender identity has become one of the hottest topics in politics, and one recent collegiate volleyball match between a pair of Canadian colleges is unlikely to quiet that debate.

According to a recent report from the Canadian media website Rebel News, which has become known for its far-right political and social commentary, five transgender female athletes participated in a collegiate women’s volleyball game that took place in Toronto last month.

Rebel News reports that the women’s volleyball match between Centennial College against Seneca College in Toronto featured two transgender women playing on the Centennial College roster and and three transgender women playing on the Seneca College roster. In the best-of-five series, Seneca ultimately prevailed, winning the match against Centennial by a score of three games to one.

The outlet attended the game, and claimed that “Rebel News employees were continually harassed, our cameras were blocked, and at one point, security guards told us we had to leave because we were causing ‘a disturbance’ in the stands.”

Rebel News also said that they tried to interview the transgender players after the match, but claimed that they “were threatened by security guards that we’d be ‘trespassed’ if we did not leave the venue immediately.”
