Earlier this month, legendary Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban announced his sudden retirement from coaching college football. And while it’s not clear what he has planned next, it sounds like he could have a career in politics if that’s what he chooses.

Last week, Alabama political reporter Josh Moon had a bold suggestion that Nick Saban should run as a Democrat and challenge current U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville – a Republican who is also a former college football coach – for the state’s Senate seat.

“Nick Saban for US Senate. Save us from Tommy Tuberville one more time,” Moon said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

This bold suggestion from Moon appears to have caught the attention of the Alabama Democratic party, who had a pretty clear message to the legendary college football coach in response.

“We officially second this,” Alabama Democrats said in a post.

It’s worth noting that Saban has given no official indication that he plans to step into politics after announcing his retirement from college football earlier this month. But it’s clear that if he did, he would have the support of the Democratic party.

And given his popularity in the state after his legendary coaching career, he would probably have a lot of votes.
