The Detroit Lions fans had not experienced a home playoff game in three decades before last weekend’s game between the Lions and the Los Angeles Rams at Ford Field. And based on the reaction from Rams fans after the game, it sounds like the fans created quite a hostile environment.

As Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield prepares to play in Ford Field this weekend when the Buccaneers take on the Lions, he claims that his former Rams teammates got brutally honest about the sort of environment he should expect from Lions fans this weekend.

“They said it was the loudest thing they’ve ever heard,” Mayfield said according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. “We’ve got to be completely ready for that. It just comes down to everybody knowing exactly what our game plan is — all the calls to and from, because there could be certain times where they can’t hear certain things. They might have to plug and play some of the words.

“Just everybody doing the mental work to get prepped for that. But it shouldn’t be a surprise for us. It’s going to be a great atmosphere.”

It’s not often you hear this sort of praise about an opposing team’s crowd. We’ll have to see if the Lions fans can bring that same sort of energy this weekend.
