Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has not played against the Detroit Lions in Ford Field since he was traded from the Lions to the Rams ahead of the 2021 season. That means that his homecoming will come in quite a big game this weekend.

This week, the Lions are hosting the Rams in what will be the first playoff game Detroit has hosted since 1993. Ahead of the game, Matthew Stafford sent a pretty clear message to the Lions fans about what he expects the crowd and the environment to look like in his return to Ford Field.

“I know it’s going to be rocking there,” Stafford said according to Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com. “Haven’t had a playoff game there about 30 years or whatever it is. So it’ll be a great atmosphere. It’ll be a tough task for us, but definitely excited.”

It’s sure to be a wild environment after Lions fans have waited so long for a home playoff game and a division title. Stafford obviously has plenty of experience playing in that stadium after spending the first 12 seasons of his career with the Lions, but he’s never faced this crowd as a visitor.

We’ll have to see how he performs.
