The Alabama Crimson Tide suffered a season-ending loss on Monday afternoon when they fell to the Michigan Wolverines in the Rose Bowl semifinal of the College Football Playoff, and it looks like they are also losing one of their highly-recruited future quarterbacks following the defeat.

According to a report from national college football reporter Matt Zenitz and recruiting analyst Chris Hummer of 247 Sports, Alabama four-star quarterback Eli Holstein is intending to leave the program through the transfer portal.

“Alabama four-star freshman QB Eli Holstein has entered the transfer portal, @chris_hummer and I have learned for @247sports,” Zenitz said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Holstein did not play for a single game for the Alabama Crimson Tide this season and he faced plenty of competition toward potentially earning playing time in the future, as well.

Starting quarterback Jalen Milroe will be returning to Alabama next season along with backup Ty Simpson. In addition, Alabama just signed five-star quarterback Julian Sayin in the 2024 freshman class.

It seems as though Holstein is simply looking for a clearer path to a starting opportunity that he might not get if he remains at Alabama.
