North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Mack Brown might have uttered the best out-of-context quote of the entire college football season this week: “I’d love to have mayonnaise in my hair.”

The odd comments from Mack Brown are quite a bit less bizarre when put into context, but the context itself highlights the absurdity of college football.

The North Carolina Tar Heels will be taking on the West Virginia Mountaineers in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl later this week. And in a pretty bizarre tradition, the winning coach of the team has a bucket of mayonnaise poured over their head in celebration – much like Gatorade, but a little more messy.

But Brown doesn’t sound all that worried about the mess. In fact, he’ll be more than willing to accept it if it means leading his team to victory.

“They want to do that, that’s kind of fun afterwards,” Brown said. “That would be just a tribute to winning. So I’m not worried about that at all. I can wash my hair. I can wash my hair a lot better than I can clean up after a loss.”

We’ll have to see whether or not Brown can earn that mayonnaise shower this week.
