Back in the 2011 NFL season, Rashard Mendenhall helped lead the Pittsburgh Steelers to a Super Bowl championship over the Arizona Cardinals. But this week, he’s making headlines for a different reason after making quite a controversial post on social media.

On Monday, Rashard Mendenhall called out “average white guys” who commentate on football, suggesting that the Pro Bowl should be replaced with a game between the white players and the Black players to determine who is better at the sport.

“I’m sick of average white guys commenting on football. Y’all not even good at football. Can we please replace the Pro Bowl with an All-Black vs. All-White bowl so these cats can stop trying to teach me who’s good at football. I’m better than ur goat,” Mendenhall said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Mendenhall played six seasons in the NFL – five with the Steelers and one with the Cardinals – before he decided to walk away from the game to pursue a writing career. He is currently a writer and story editor for the HBO sports comedy Ballers where he often uses his won NFL playing career as inspiration.
