Earlier this week, the Los Angeles Chargers made a major shakeup in the front office when they fired head coach Brandon Staley and General Manager Tom Telesco. And it looks like the team is making their first significant move following their departures.

According to a report from league insider Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Los Angeles Chargers are signing Will Grier off of the New England Patriots Practice squad.

“The #Chargers signed QB Will Grier off the #Patriots’ practice squad, per source. The first significant move by interim GM JoJo Wooden,” Pellisero said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

“As a corresponding move, the #Chargers are waiving QB Max Duggan, per source. The former TCU star will be back on the practice squad if he clears,” Pelissero said in a follow-up post.

This is a significant move because with starting quarterback Justin Herbert out for the remainder of the season, there is a chance that Grier could actually see the field for the team.

The Chargers went with quarterback Easton Stick in place of Herbert in last Thursday night’s embarrassing 63-21 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, in Staley’s last game leading the team. Perhaps this indicates that the team is wanting to go in another direction at quarterback for the remainder of the season.
