The Georgia Bulldogs had the nation’s longest winning streak snapped this weekend when the Alabama Crimson Tide handed them their first loss since the SEC Championship Game in 2021. It ended a 29-game winning streak for the Bulldogs, and head coach Kirby Smart opened up about what he told his team after such a heartbreaking loss.
During a recent press conference, Kirby Smart gave some insight about his message to the team following the loss to Alabama, pointing out that there were two entire recruiting classes of players that hadn’t even experienced a single loss with the Georgia Bulldogs.
“I love ’em. I mean, I love ’em,” Smart said according to On3. “Guys in there, two classes of guys in that room that have not lost a game. You’re looking at, I don’t know, 10, 15 NFL players who lose it feels like every other week. There’s two classes of our kids that have not lost a game.
“They’re resilient, they’re fighters. In life a lot of times you really can’t get better until you lose sometimes because you have to find out what you can do better. It was a sad … [guys were] really upset. Guys really care about this team. The culture is really good on this team. They were hurt in there, rightfully so. The message doesn’t change. We’re looking inward and figuring out what we can do.”
The Bulldogs will now have a chance to bounce back from the disappointing loss with an Orange Bowl matchup against the Florida State Seminoles.
