After the LSU Tigers failed to achieve their goals this season, finishing the year with just a 9-3 record despite beginning the season with national title aspirations. As a result, head coach Brian Kelly might have to make some changes to his coaching staff this offseason. But it doesn’t sound like he’s afraid to make those moves.

During a recent press conference, Brian Kelly made it clear that he’s willing to fire coaches when necessary, recalling a time when he fired Brian VanGorder just a few games into the season, even though VanGorder was a groomsman in his wedding.

“I don’t think that I’ve ever, look, here’s what I can tell ya,” Kelly said according to On3. “I was three games into a season in 2016 at Notre Dame, I had to fire my defensive coordinator, and he was in my wedding. Those aren’t easy decisions, OK? I’m not afraid to make those decisions, and I’m going to do what’s best for LSU’s football program and the pursuit of a national championship.”

Given that the team’s defense has struggled this season and last, there has been some speculation that Kelly may look to replace current LSU defensive coordinator Matt House. And he’s made it clear that if he deems that move necessary, he’d be willing to do it.
