The College Football Playoff Committee made a shocking decision on Sunday. The committee chose to place the one-loss Alabama Crimson Tide in the fourth seed over the undefeated ACC champion Florida State Seminoles.

Many college football fans across the country were outraged, including former president Donald Trump. Unlike most fans, however, Trump said he wants to blame Florida governor Ron DeSantis for the Seminole snub.

“Florida State was treated very badly by the ‘Committee,'” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “They became the first [undefeated] Power Five team to be left out of the College Football Playoffs. Really bad lobbying effort … Let’s blame DeSanctimonious!”

Trump is currently leading DeSantis by double digits in the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. DeSantis was seen by many political observers as a chief rival to Trump but his campaign has faltered in the last few months after a series of embarrassing self-inflicted wounds.

DeSantis, for his part, was also enraged by the Seminoles being left out of the playoffs.

“What we learned today is that you can go undefeated and win your conference championship game, but the College Football Playoff committee will ignore these results,” DeSantis wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “Congratulations to @FSUFootball on an outstanding season and winning the ACC championship!”
