The Indiana Hoosiers fired head football coach Tom Allen this weekend. And as the team looks for his replacement, a rather shocking name has emerged: Jon Gruden.
According to a report from Bruce Feldman of The Athletic, former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden is a “big wildcard” candidate to become the next head coach at Indiana, but he has “key support” with “some key IU folks.”
Among the Indiana coaching candidates to replace Tom Allen: South Alabama’s Kane Wommack, Bama OC Tommy Rees, Ohio State OL coach Justin Frye, and a big wildcard candidate who has support with some key IU folks: Jon Gruden,” Feldman wrote in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Gruden most recently coached for the Las Vegas Raiders but resigned in October of 2021 after his emails containing racist, misogynistic, and homophobic slurs surfaced as part of an NFL investigation.
It’s worth noting that Feldman did not list Gruden as one of the favorites to land the Indiana job, but the fact that he was even mentioned as a contender for the role is obviously notable.
If it happens, it would certainly raise eyebrows around the nation.
