The Philadelphia Eagles have made their “tush push” quarterback sneak play famous over the past couple of seasons as the team has become adept at pushing quarterback Jalen Hurts forward over the line of scrimmage. But legendary quarterback Tom Brady doesn’t necessarily think it’s a good idea.

Though the play has been undeniably successful, Tom Brady thinks the Philadelphia Eagles should be wary about using it too often as it puts quarterback Jalen Hurts at risk of injury.

“The only thing I worry about in that particular play is they all know what’s coming when you line up in formation and that quarterback is going to take a lot of shots,” Brady said during an appearance on his Let’s Go! podcast. “I don’t know how many times you want your quarterback taking shots.”

While the play is certainly an easy way to get one quick yard, Brady isn’t sure it’s worth the risk of potentially injuring your quarterback.

“So yeah, it’s effective for a one-yard gain but it might be ineffective someday when someone hits a right shoulder of the quarterback because they know it’s coming. So you may have some short-term gain, you may have some long-term pain,” Brady said.

It’s certainly worth considering for teams thinking about employing this strategy in short-yardage situations.
