The United States Women’s National Team had a rather disappointing showing throughout the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup culminating in a loss to Sweden in a penalty shootout in the round of 16, marking the team’s earliest exit from the FIFA Women’s World Cup in history. But they still made United States President Joe Biden proud.

Following the team’s crushing loss to Sweden in penalty kicks on Sunday, Joe Biden took to Twitter to express how proud he was of the team despite their bitterly disappointing loss.

“.@USWNT, you’ve made your country proud. Congratulations on an incredible run. This team is something special and I’m looking forward to seeing how you continue to inspire Americans with your grit and determination – on and off the field,”

It was quite a bold assertion from Biden, and it seemed to upset many across social media as they expressed their displeasure with his decision to praise the team.

The United States entered the tournament as the favorite to win the title for an unprecedented third consecutive time after winning it in 2019 and 2015 before. However, they struggled throughout, managing just one goal across their last three games combined.

It was quite a disappointing showing from the team all around.
