Based on the media coverage and the heated national discussion surrounding transgender athletes as well as the various states moving to ban transgender women from competing in women’s sports, it would be safe to assume that transgender women have been flooding women’s sports leagues across the country. Turns out, that couldn’t be further from the truth.
In North Carolina, which recently passed a bill by a veto-proof margin that bans transgender athletes, just two transgender girls in the entire state have submitted waivers to play in girls’ sports over the past four years.
This goes along with the findings from one “Save Women’s Sports” group that found only five examples of transgender girls competing in girls’ sports throughout the entire country.
Despite the widespread belief that people are transitioning in order to dominate women’s sports, North Carolina High School Athletic Association Commissioner Que Tucker explained that the waiver process ensures that this is not the case, saying “This is not something that the student woke up this morning and said ‘Let’s go down to the school and do this.'”
The transgender sports ban in North Carolina has gotten a lot of attention, but it really only would have impacted two transgender women over the past four years.
But people continue to pretend it’s a matter of grave importance to the country, because they cannot be bothered with facts.
