Former NFL great Cris Carter wants the Jacksonville Jaguars to “swallow their pride” and sign quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Speaking on FS1’s ‘First Things First,” Carter lobbied for the Jags to bring in Kaepernick to replace the struggling Blake Bortles. Offering “free advice,” to the Jags, Carter said the team needs to get over politics and bring in Kaep.

“It was strictly a political decision” — but now, they need to pull Colin’s phone number out of the trash.”

“He’s a better thrower of the football than Blake Bortles. He’s a better runner of the football. He’s been a better winner. He’s a better leader than Blake Bortles. So, you get what you pay for.”

The 3-4 Jaguars, a team many expected to contend for the Super Bowl, has held the team back in recent weeks. Jacksonville has scored just 28 points in the last three weeks, with Bortles throwing two touchdowns and six picks during that span. The 26-year-old was benched in favor of Cody Kessler during the team’s 20-7 loss against the Houston Texans Sunday.

Kaepernick hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since 2016, yet he’d still be a massive upgrade over Bortles. The 30-year-old has put up consistently good numbers in his career while leading the 49ers to a Super Bowl (loss) in 2012. At the very least, Kaepernick is worth a shot. If you’re thinking about starting Bortles or Kessler, there’s no question Kaepernick would be an upgrade.

Carter’s right. Jacksonville needs to get over its politics and sign Kaepernick. Let’s end this charade and get the talented QB back in the NFL. He’s too good to sit on the sidelines.
