J.R. Smith made one of the most bone-headed plays in NBA history after dribbling out the clock in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, a decision so bad, it broke the Cavaliers according to Kevin Durant.
The Golden State Warriors forward appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live where he admitted: “We knew we kind of broke them a little bit with [winning Game 1 after the mistake].”
Uh… ya think?
Losing Game 1 after getting so close and throwing it away had to kill the Cavaliers. Beating Golden State is not easy, especially when you throw away the only great chance you have.
To make matters more interesting, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith claimed Golden State (and some reporters) knew about LeBron injuring his hand after the Game 1 blunder by punching a blackboard. Why didn’t any of those reporters report that? Who knows.
Unquestionably, the Cavaliers lost any chances they had at beating Golden State after the demoralizing screw up by Smith. Durant being so open about it is the sort of cockiness that makes you either love him or hate him.
