Here’s a pretty weird highlight from last night’s AHL action between the Grand Rapid Griffins and the Lake Erie Monsters; that’s Griffins’ defenseman Ryan Sproul scoring his first goal of the year in unconventional fashion, using the glass as his backboard to help put his team up 4-0.

The 21-year old Sproul carries the puck into the offensive zone and fires a slapper from the point off the glass behind the net. The puck takes a huge bounce off the glass and ends up pinballing off of Monsters’ goalie Calvin Pickard and into the net, much to the amusement of everyone in the building not wearing a Lake Erie sweater.

I’m still not sure why you would pull the trigger on a point slapper when you’re leading a 3-on-2 rush but, hey, you can’t argue with results.
