There was a bit of controversy during last week’s Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions game on Sunday. Although the Bills won, the team complained afterwards that there had been a green laser pointer flashed into their eyes during the game. The laser pointer may have even contributed to a missed field goal by Bills kicker Dan Carpenter.

It now appears that the culprit has been tracked down by the Detroit Lions. He has been banned “indefinitely” from attending Lions games, according to Adam Schefter:

The person accused of using a laser pointer at Sunday’s Detroit Lions-Buffalo Bills game has been identified and effective immediately will be banned indefinitely from attending all future events at Ford Field, the Lions announced today.

The individual, who subsequently admitted using the laser pointer, also has been charged with a misdemeanor for Disorderly Conduct by the Detroit City Prosecutor’s Office.

Lions President Tom Lewland noted that the heavy punishment was doled out due to the fact that the laser pointer could have affected the outcome of the game and the fact that a laser pointer can’t be good for the safety of guys who need vision to do their job:

“Additionally, this occurrence was unique in that it could have affected the integrity of the game and more importantly could have jeopardized player safety.”

Showing that hell has no wrath like an angry football organization, the season-ticket holder who the banned fan got his seat from has also had the rest of their 2014 tickets revoked. Ouch.
