David Belisle’s Rhode Island team, the Cumberland American, was knocked out of the Little League World Series on Monday night after they lost 8-7 in an elimination game against Illinois. As you’d imagine, the Cumberland boys were pretty devastated following the defeat, with many in tears as they gathered for the post-game huddle in the outfield.

Fortunately for those kids, their coach proceeded to deliver a fantastic speech and let them know how proud he (and everyone else) was of them for the effort they showed and they fight they put up before giving them all the hug they so needed. In a world where it seems like so many youth coaches go overboard and become too obsessed with winning, Belisle’s speech was a refreshing and touching reminder that sometimes victory isn’t all about the scoreboard.
