The Jumbotron marriage proposal is a sports staple (or at the very least, a cliche) so one man decided to up the ante for all future couples by proposing on the field right after the national anthem.

Caitlin McGinty was singing the anthem for Wednesday’s San Francisco Giants game along with Ellen Toscano and Shawna McNulty. After the trio were done singing, Toscano and McNulty quietly receded from the scene as McGinty’s boyfriend, Richie Beanan, stepped forward to surprise McGinty by getting down on one knee. According to the Giants, the crowd absolutely loved it:

“You could hear a lot of ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ in the crowd — Caitlin kind of got a little shaky and she said ‘yes,'” said Becky Biniek, who manages social media for the Giants. “The crowd reaction was great.”

According to Biniek, no one could recall something like this being done before in Giants history. The team isn’t likely to make this sort of proposal a tradition (Biniek told the press that the team “can’t make a habit of it”), which makes it all the more special for the happy couple.
