Unfortunately for Bengals QB Andy Dalton, his fat new contract didn’t come with better receiving depth and it certainly didn’t make his current corps invincible.

No. 2 wide receiver and one of the league’s breakout stars of 2013, Marvin Jones received confirmation that he brook a bone in his foot on Saturday, prompting surgery and requiring him to miss significant time. According to Geoff Hobson of the team’s official website, who spoke with Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, Jones will be out “a few weeks”

Hobson also noted that this is similar injury to that of Mohamed Sanu in 2012, which caused him to miss the final month of the season.

Marvin Jones, a relative unknown entering 2013, was a 5th-round pick out of Cal and only caught 18 balls in his rookie season. As most fantasy owners were waiting for Sanu to explode, Jones quickly recorded 51 catches for 712 yards and a whopping 10 touchdowns on only 80 targets last season. His coming out party came in a Week 7 win over the Jets when he caught all eight targets for 122 yards and a ridiculous four touchdowns, instantly gaining fantasy credibility.

Fantasy Football Impact

In his absence, Sanu will slide into the No. 2 slot while 6th-year man Brandon Tate and former Buckeye Dane Sanzenbacher should see significantly more targets. Those planning to retain Jones in keeper leagues should not worry about the foot but standard leagues could see him slide down a round or two and rightfully so. Feel free to ignore both Tate and Sanzebacher unless Jones is ruled out more than Week 1, but Sanu is worth every penny of a late-round low-risk selection.
