jeetsdouble

National League starter Adam Wainwright apparently confirmed some people’s suspicions that he might have thrown Derek Jeter a cookie in the shortstop’s final All-Star game on Tuesday. Wainwright reportedly spilled the beans to reporters shortly after exiting the game:

The fact that Wainwright gave Jeter some decent pitches to hit isn’t exactly the biggest shocker, but it’s kind of strange that Wainwright immediately disclosed it to the media. I mean, that kind of defeats the purpose of letting Jeets have his “deserved” moment, doesn’t it?

Maybe Wainwright should reconsider doing legends any favors moving forward, especially considering the fact that Jeter doubled off of him and then was immediately driven in for the game’s first run in a game that determines home field advantage in the World Series.

Update: Wainwright did a live interview with Erin Andrews during the game’s broadcast and backtracked hard on his comments, saying he didn’t intentionally serve up pitches to Jeter. That, folks, is what we like to call “damage control.”
