As Buzzfeed so eloquently put it in referencing Dubai’s new massive mall project: It’s basically a city with air conditioning.

The Mall of the World, as the savvy-hungry city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is calling it, will span 48 million square feet, (8 million of which will be exclusively shopping) house over 100 hotels and apartments and showcase the world’s largest indoor theme park.

All of these luxuries come with air conditioning, except of course during the summer months when the retractable roof will be open.

New York City’s Broadway and London’s Oxford Street will be used as inspiration for a theatre district, cultural center and thoroughfare atmosphere.

UAE ruler Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum issued the following statement on the project:

The growth in family and retail tourism underpins the need to enhance Dubai’s tourism infrastructure as soon as possible. This project complements our plans to transform Dubai into a cultural, tourist and economic hub for the 2 billion people living in the region around us, and we are determined to achieve our vision.
