This is great, great news for the USMNT.

If you don’t recall, Altidore injured his hamstring in the first half of the USMNT’s first game. He hasn’t played since. You have to figure if Altidore is cleared and if he’s in match shape, he’s going to be starting up top for the U.S.

Like I said, this is great, great news. Yes, Altidore was pretty bad when playing with Sunderland during the club season. And no, he’s not the most skilled forward available to the U.S. But, we could really use Altidore’s physicality as the lone forward in Jurgen Klinsmann’s system, which also allows Dempsey to slot back into his more natural position in the midfield.

Tuesday, 1 p.m. Let’s do this.
