Lamar OdomThe New York Knicks announced this afternoon that they have signed troubled forward Lamar Odom for the remainder of the season (which, may we remind you, will be over in a matter of hours). It’d be easy to crack jokes about the Knicks signing someone who isn’t going to play in tonight’s season finale, but the Knicks are thinking long-term, as the pickup allows the Knicks first crack at re-signing Odom for next season. Odom is scheduled to begin working out Thursday at the team’s facilities.

The Knicks’ roster is going to need a major overhaul during the off-season after they dropped from 54 wins and a #2 seed to missing the playoffs this season — and some will view the pickup of Odom as a risky proposition. But reuniting with his former coach, Phil Jackson, can’t be a bad thing.
