ESPN is reporting that the Knicks have discussed the idea of proposing a trade to the Clippers that would send Carmelo Anthony to Los Angeles in exchange for Blake Griffin.
Sources also say that Clippers management has had internal discussions about such a deal, but neither team have spoken to one another about a potential trade. There have been numerous reports that Carmelo will opt out of his final year of a contract that would pay him more than $23 million next season because frankly, the Knicks suck. If Melo is dead-set on being on a winning team and will be packing his bags, than the Knicks should really attempt to get something for him before he bolts.
For the Clippers who hold a 23-12 record, they don’t necessarily need scoring, but are in need of a interior defender à la Tyson Chandler. However with Chris Paul to miss at least three to five weeks with a separated right shoulder the Clippers could use some scoring punch.
Will the infamous toast in Carmelo’s wedding where Paul announced that in the future he would be playing with Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire finally come into fruition or is this just reporters coming up with intriguing stories to chit chat about?
