It is highly unlikely that the hold out of star running back Maurice Jones-Drew will cause the Jacksonville Jaguars to trade him, but that hasn’t stopped the trade rumors from surfacing.

NFL.com’s Dan Hanzus writes that if things do not work out between the Jaguars and MJD, there are a handful of teams that could try to get the league’s leading rusher. The New York Jets, Detroit Lions, Washington Redskins and New York Giants are all potential landing spots for MJD.

The Jets do have Jacksonville native Tim Tebow, and after Rex Ryan said he wants to return to the “ground-and-pound” days of Jet football, MJD would be a prime candidate. However, Jaguars first round pick from last year Blaine Gabbert has looked sharp in his two preseason games now that he has somebody to throw to in Justin Blackmon.

The Lions have several backs they can use, but after placing Jahvid Best on the PUP list, Kevin Smith will be their go-to guy, that is until Mike LeShoure returns from his suspension after week 3. While those options are not terrible, MJD is the league’s leading rusher and could be a great addition for the Lions.

The Redskins and the Giants are long-shots, but who knows, maybe one of these teams would be willing to make a big trade to get MJD.

Like I said, though, these trades are highly unlikely to happen and the Jags and MJD will most likely come to some kind of agreement in the near future.
