Ohio State coach Jim Tressel has resigned after allegations that have blemished the program this off-season.

In a statement from Tressel released by Ohio State:

“After meeting with university officials, we agreed that it is in the best interest of Ohio State that I resign as head football coach…The appreciation that (wife) Ellen and I have for the Buckeye Nation is immeasurable.”

This comes after Tressel was suspended for 5 games in the upcoming season and fined $250,000 for some emails that surfaced showing his knowledge of players selling NCAA memorabilia.

The 58-year-old Tressel had a record of 106-22-0 at Ohio State in his 10 years there, including the first national title for the school in 34 years.
