It was widely reported that legendary running back and infamous murder suspect O.J. Simpson was battling cancer at the time of his death, but it is now confirmed that the cancer was what ultimately killed him.

This week, TMZ reported that the official cause of death for O.J. Simpson was prostate cancer.

“Malcolm LaVergne, Simpson’s longtime attorney and the executor of his estate, tells us he has received the death certificate for the disgraced former football superstar and actor, confirming our report that O.J. succumbed to cancer,” TMZ reported this week.

As TMZ points out, Simpson seemed to be keeping his specific diagnosis and the severity of the disease hidden from the public.

“O.J. first revealed he was battling cancer — although he didn’t specify the form — in May 2023, but suggested he’d beaten the disease,” TMZ reported.

The official cause of death led to a lot of reactions on social media.

Simpson obviously has a pretty complicated legacy. While he was undeniably one of the best running backs in NFL history, he also was suspected of killing his wife and her friend, leading to one of the most famous murder trials in history. Though he was ultimately acquitted, most people still believe he was guilty.
