Last year, Deion Sanders had a lot of hype heading into his first season as the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes. But based on the attendance numbers from the team’s spring game over the weekend, it sounds like that hype has faded quite a bit.

According to a story from Andrea Adelson of ESPN, Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes saw a very steep decline in attendance at this year’s spring game compared to last year’s spring game, even despite the team’s push for fans to attend.

“This spring game did not have as much of the fanfare surrounding it as last year’s. Colorado had a sold-out crowd of more than 47,000 people at its spring game in 2023, which was played during a snowstorm,” Adelson wrote.

“Following Sanders’ 4-8 debut season, Colorado distributed 28,424 tickets for Saturday’s game, the second-largest crowd in school spring game history. Colorado branded an entire Black & Gold weekend, with a talent show earlier in the week and a concert featuring Lil Wayne later Saturday.”

Obviously, it’s pretty brutal news for Sanders that the hype around his program is fading, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media as a result.

It’s worth noting that the game was played in the rain on Saturday, but given that last year’s game was played in a snowstorm it’s still fair to compare the two.
