Team USA made a significant decision this weekend to build the women’s basketball roster for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The roster is out, and one notable name is absent: Caitlin Clark. The college basketball legend and top pick in this year’s WNBA Draft is a superstar and a lightning rod for just about everything these days. Discourse around her is neverending, and all weekend long, everyone’s had something to say about her and the decision to leave her off the team.

Fever coach Christie Sides then chimed in on Sunday afternoon. Clark had commented on the decision during media availability and expressed no hard feelings or resentment. Sides noted that Clark said something interesting to her.

Clark has obviously accomplished plenty already in her young basketball career. But there is still a process to undertake. She’s just a rookie, and while she has all this attention, there are plenty of elite players deserving of being on the team. She just isn’t there yet, but that still has people pressed. Both sides have talked each other’s ears off, and the trickle down continued after Sides weighed in.
