Ohio State, Michigan Ohio State, Michigan

Over the past two seasons, Roddy Gayle Jr. emerged as a star for the Ohio State Buckeyes men’s basketball team. But after entering the transfer portal earlier this year, it sounds like he’ll now be playing for Ohio State’s archrivals, signing with the Michigan Wolverines and new head coach Dusty Maye.

According to Joe Tipton of On3, Roddy Gayle Jr. has decided to sign with Michigan after leaving Ohio State, switching sides in one of college sports’ strongest rivalries.

“BREAKING: Ohio State transfer guard Roddy Gayle Jr. has committed to Michigan, he tells @On3sports. The 6-4 sophomore averaged 13.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game this season,” Tipton said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Gayle decided to enter the transfer portal following the season after Ohio State named interim coach Jake Diebler the full-time head coach in replacement of Chris Holtmann. He now joins a Michigan team who will also have a new full-time head coach this upcoming season after the Wolverines hired Maye to replace Juwan Howard.

Obviously, given the intensity of the rivalry between the Buckeyes and the Wolverines, a move like this from Gayle will not make Ohio State fans too happy.
