The New Orleans Saints already have a starting quarterback with Derek Carr returning to lead the team this season, and they have a pretty strong collection of backup quarterbacks, as well. But that did not stop the team from adding another quarterback this offseason.

On Friday, the New Orleans Saints announced that they had signed veteran quarterback Kellen Mond to the roster to compete this offseason.

“New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced today that the club has agreed to terms with quarterback Kellen Mond,” the Saints wrote on the team website on Friday morning.

While Mond obviously is not expected to compete for the starting quarterback role this offseason, it still led to a lot of reactions on social media as a result.

Mond joins a pretty loaded quarterbacks room that already features Nathan Peterman and Jake Haener as backup quarterbacks. The Saints also list do-it-all offensive weapon Taysom Hill as a quarterback on the roster. So Mond will have to fight for a spot on the roster this offseason.

A former Texas A&M Aggies star, Mond was originally selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He’s since spent time with the Browns and the Colts.
