Alice Sabatini was named Miss Italia on Sunday but her new pageant reign has not been without its own controversies.

During the competition that would go on to crown Sabatini, judges asked her to name the historical period she would have wanted to live in.

Her answer? 1942. You know, during the Mussolini dictatorship and World War II.

The gaffe caught the attention of the satirical news program “Striscia la Notizia, who then proceeded to hand Sabatini their satirical “Tapiro d’Oro” award that is given to celebrities “who have been humiliated or defeated.”

A correspondent for the program then asked the new Miss Italia “which Italian historical figure she most admired.”

Surely, she wouldn’t bungle another basic question on her country’s history.

You can see where this is going.

After a long pause the beauty queen replied: “Michael Jordan, the greatest player in basketball history”.

Welp.

Making this even more hilarious is the fact that Sabatini most likely answered the question as honestly as she could. The 18-year-old plays second division basketball and she does have Jordan Brand’s Jumpman tattooed on her hip, so she definitely admires MJ, even if he is a questionable name to bandy about for “Italian historical figure.”
