The baseball world had a legend taken away from it earlier this year when Padres great Tony Gwynn lost his battle with cancer in June. The Hall of Famer, affectionately known as Mr. Padre, spent his entire career in San Diego and became a hero to many within that community.
Following his death, many baseball fans found different and unique ways to pay tribute to the beloved outfielder. (Or, if you’re this year’s MLB All-Star Game, you just decided to ignore the passing of one of the best hitters to ever play the game.) With the holiday season upon us, this fan decided to honor Mr. Padre by setting up an array of Gwynn-themed Christmas decorations in their front yard.
It’s kind of a tacky and obnoxious display, but also a solid testament to the impact that #19 had in San Diego. The man is gone but not forgotten, especially when the sun goes down in this person’s neighborhood.
