Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Tatar was the unfortunate victim of a knee to the head at the end of the Wings’ preseason game against the Penguins on Wednesday night. Tatar suffered the blow after being shoved into an airborne linesman, who was doing his best to get out of the way.

Tatar was visibly shaken up as a result; he tried to get up on his own before stumbling backwards to the ice. He was ultimately helped off by a trainer and a teammate and didn’t return to the game. You always hate to see any sort of head injury – especially when it comes as the result of a freak accident – so hopefully concussion tests will come back negative.

UPDATE: According to Red Wings coach Mike Babcock, Tatar will be fine. Good news.
