Minor league baseball teams are to marketing as Rob Gronkowski is to fun: They do it way better than you or I.

The Lake County Captains, Single-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, have creatively crafted a new marketing ploy to attract attention, with “Mark Emmert Appreciation Day” on July 2nd. Emmert, the controversial and battered NCAA president, noted minor league teams aren’t very successful while testifying in the seemingly neverending Ed O’Bannon antitrust trial last week.

Apparently the Captains took offense to it and will host an array of awesome in-game promotions to negatively celebrate Emmert’s (accurate) comments, including the following:

  • All fans may transfer to a different seat but will be subject to a one inning waiting period penalty
  • Fans that participate during in-game festivities, contests or promotions will not receive tangible prizes but instead receive the satisfaction of having participated
  • The Captain mascot may or may not roam the stadium dishing out $100 handshakes to any fan wearing a generic college jersey, one that may or may not represent a current student-athlete
