The Boston Bruins took on the Red Wings in Detroit with a chance to take a 3-1 series lead and head back to Boston with the Wings’ backed up against the proverbial wall.

Tied 2-2 and entrenched in a tight battle late in regulation, Bruins forward Brad Marchand missed a WIDE open opportunity to put Boston ahead in the closing minutes of the game. Despite the fact that all he had to do was tap the puck into a completely abandoned net, Marchand attempted to slam home a one-timer from point blank range and somehow managed to miss wide.

It was a completely disastrous showcase by one of the Bruins’ top scorers, but at least he looked cool with that sniper pose?

As you can imagine, Marchand was a little nervous that his huge flub would come back to bite the Bruins as they headed to overtime at Joe Louis Arena but, fortunately for Marchand’s sanity, Jarome Iginla was able to let him off the hook when he scored the game-winner.

As you can imagine, Marchand was pretty relieved. How relieved, you ask? Enough to give Iginla a nice big smooch as a token of his appreciation:

I guess when a Stanley Cup is on the line, anything goes in those NHL locker rooms.
