Lauren Tannehill, the gorgeous wife of Dolphins’ quarterback Ryan Tannehill, accidentally left her AR-15 rifle in the backseat of a rental car, according to a Broward sheriff’s report. Lauren had apparently returned a rental car in South Florida for a new one, and just completely forgot that she had a rifle in the backseat. Luckily for the Tannehills, the incident is a big mistake but won’t result in any criminal charges according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Keyla Concepción.
According to the Sun Sentinel:
The rifle, valued at $2,000 and still in its case, remained in the Nissan Rogue when it was rented to another person hours later Jan. 4, the report said.
The next person renting the vehicle found the rifle and, heeding the rental company’s advice, turned it over to police. “Though dangerous if it would have landed in the wrong hands, it’s not criminal,” sheriff’s spokeswoman Keyla Concepción said of the incident.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office said she rented the white Nissan Rogue and returned it two hours later to E-Z Rent-A-Car, swapping it for a different car.
About three hours after that, the car was rented to Judith Fleissig, 58, of Rochester, N.Y., who called the E-Z Rent-A-Car at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport company after she discovered the weapon, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
“They simply forgot it,” Concepción said of the left-behind rifle.
Fleissig was instructed to turn it over to the nearest police station, and she gave it to the Hillsboro Beach Police Department.
No word yet on if the Tannehill’s got the rifle back.
