If you follow the WWE at all, you know that fellow wrestlers John Cena and Nikki Bella called off their very public engagement. Cena has been starring in movies more and more often the past couple of years, and Bella is the star of the reality show “Total Divas” with her twin sister, Brie.

Most of their lives have been broadcast over television both real and fake. The seemingly real engagement ended, and the noise around the couple subsided. That is until John Cena went on The Today Show and made a public plea to his former fiance.

“I love her. I want to be with her. I want to make her my wife. I want to be the father of her children. I just want us to work,” said Cena to Kathie Lee and H, oda.

First off, what in the hell is he doing professing his love to someone on morning television? Playing this out in public feels more performative than it needs to be. If this is, in fact, real, why is he airing out their dirty laundry? Maybe, just shoot her a text?

Only just a little bit ago, Nikki was on the red carpet and had this to say about the professing of love:

If this doesn’t smell phony to you I don’t know what to tell you. This feels like a storyline played out in public. We are all marks and they are going to get us to fall for it. Not knowing whether or not it is real is a weird feeling. A definite change from those who always watch WWE. Hopefully, we get to see the real side of both of them and if we already have, what the heck has the past month been?
