Galen Scott admits he made a mistake after an alleged extramarital affair led to his resignation as assistant coach of Virginia Tech this week.
Per the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Scott left his post at the school after a Twitter user named @Diggy1973 alleged via tweet Scott had an affair with the Twitter user’s wife during recruiting trips. @Diggy1973 tipped off the university and the Times-Dispatch via email regarding the affair.
@virginia_tech@CoachFuente did you know that Coach Galen Scott used hotels paid by @VT_Football to sleep with my wife on 5 occasions in two states? Are these actions sanctioned by @VT_Football @virginia_tech?

Scott, who’s the fourth-highest paid assistant coach in the country told the Times-Dispatch he made a big mistake.
“I made a mistake, man… I made a mistake and hurt my family. I just have to make sure I can handle that.”
“It was just an integrity deal,” Scott said. “I just made a mistake. I don’t think it was just the emails. The emails just threw that out there.”
I want to thank all of the people who have reached out to me with encouraging words. There are no winners here. Now the hard part:pick up the pieces and begin healing. Appreciate what you have. I have lost everything that matters to me.

Scott previously was on the coaching staffs at Tulsa and Memphis before joining VT head coach Justin Fuente in 2016.
It’s a sad situation all around as Scott’s affair – regardless of whether it was on recruiting visits or not – leaves two families picking up the pieces. Whether Scott continues in football is a big question on its own. As of now, he’s done with VT.
