Doug Caliendo, a senior at Notre Dame High School in West Haven, Conn, lost his father to colon cancer just hours before his game on Wednesday. He decided to take the ice despite the tragedy, and he’s likely glad he did.
After his team came back from 2-0 to force overtime, it was Caliendo who buried the game-winner and capped it off with a point to the sky. You might need tissues for this one, it’s about to get really dusty in here…
Caliendo took to Twitter and thanked all those supporting him during this difficult time.
Thank you everyone for the outpouring of support to my family. My dad had a long hard battle with colon cancer and is no longer in pain.
