According to the most recent U.S. Census Bureau tally of 2014, Kansas City has a population of about 470,000. Based off that, it would appear that about… ALL OF THE CITY was at the Royals’ championship parade on Tuesday.

And when I say the whole city showed up, I’m not really exaggerating. According to KCTV, more than half a million people showed up for the Royals’ parade. (Yes, that tally includes out-of-towners but that does mean that there were literally more people at the Royals parade than there are people living in Kansas City.)
More than 500,000 fans are estimated to have turned out, some sleeping overnight to get a good viewing spot.
The influx of people was so bad that people were literally abandoning their cars by the side of the road which lead to huge traffic delays.

The estimated cost of the parade is $350,000 but it looks like Royals fans are definitely getting their money’s worth.
UPDATE: The Kansas City Star is reporting that about 800,000 people attended the Royals parade.
