Former Sixers coach Larry Brown has been lobbying the front office to hire Allen Iverson as an assistant general manager, and Iverson wholeheartedly believes that he can do it. In fact, he went so far as to claim that he was a “basketball genius.”
“I may not know everything about physical talent or anything like that, but I have a sharp mind when it comes to that look, being able to look into somebody’s eyes to tell if they are going to be in the foxhole with you tonight or if they are not,” Iverson said. “To me, I am a basketball genius and I really believe that, so at any capacity I could help this franchise, that is what I am going to do, whatever they ask me to do.”
Interesting that Iverson thinks he’s qualified to be an assistant general manager when he freely admits that he doesn’t know much about “physical talent or anything like that.” Those seem like pretty important things to know when assembling a team out of the draft and free agency. But don’t worry Sixers fans, he’s a basketball genius. Who knows, maybe this is just Sam Hinkie figuring out another way to tank next season.
