The Golden State Warriors advanced to their first NBA Finals in 40 years on Wednesday night with a Game 5 win over the Rocketrs, but guard Klay Thompson suffered a concussion on a brutal whack to the head by Trevor Ariza’s knee in the fourth quarter.

It appears that he will definitely be subjected to the NBA’s concussion protocol and while he has one full week to recover for Game 1 of the NBA Finals on June 4th, it remains an issue worth keeping your eye on. Following the game, Thompson’s dad, Mychal Thompson, was asked about the concussion and proceeded to give one of the most bizarrely irresponsible and unaware responses that is better suited for the time in which the elder Thompson played in the NBA (1978-1992) than now, a period in which head injuries are taken more seriously than any other health issue in sports:

Sure, just rub a little dirt on it, grab a power nap and he’ll be just fine…oh my.
