It is not the most shocking news considering that he was spotted practicing at Augusta all week, but Tiger Woods confirmed that he will be participating in this year’s Masters.

Woods released the following brief statement on his website announcing the news.

“I’m playing in the Masters,” Tiger said Friday afternoon. “It’s obviously very important to me, and I want to be there.”

“I’ve worked a lot on my game and I’m looking forward to competing. I’m excited to get to Augusta and I appreciate everyone’s support.”

This will be Tiger’s first major of the season. He hasn’t played in a tournament since early February. While he has obviously struggled as of late, Tiger has traditionally owned the Masters.

In 19 career events, Woods has four victories, two runner-ups and seven top-5 finishes, including a period from 2001-05 when Woods won three out of five Masters.

Tiger last played in the 2013 Masters (he sat out last year’s tournament due to his back surgery) where he finished tied for fourth place.
