It is often hard to choose an NFL team to root for. After all, who we root for is often decided by a happy accident, whether that be family tradition, locale or a favorite player.
So, 12-year-old Cade Pope, an apparent fan of NFL football without a team to root for, devised a simple way to decide on which team would earn his undying loyalty. He mailed every NFL team a letter asking why he should root for them.
Only one team responded.
Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson sent a hand-written note to Pope where he wrote that he’d be honored if Cade chose to root for the Carolina Panthers.
“Cade, we would be honored if our Carolina Panthers became your team. We would make you proud by the classy way we represent you.”
However, that’s not the only thing that the Panthers sent Cade to try and convince him to become a Panthers fan. The team also sent him a replica Panthers helmet signed by star linebacker Luke Kuechly. Now, that is some good recruiting.
If no other team responds to Cade, he has stated that he will definitely be a Panthers fan.
“If this is the only team that responds to me, I’m a Carolina Panthers fan.”
Step up your game, not-the-Carolina-Panthers.
