Like other trivia nerds, sports information gurus are extremely proud of their knowledge of various intricacies of the games that they love. These are the guys that would record Stump the Schwab, continuously watching re-runs, gloating when they nailed a correct answer and launching a never-ending barrage of pride if they managed to stump him from their living room couch.

Unfortunately for those guys there are very few opportunities to showcase an extensive encyclopedia of random sports facts and they relish the rare opportunities when Jeopardy! rolls out a sports category every week or two.  Crackle, an online distributor of TV shows and movies, is targeting these guys.

The company debuted Sports Jeopardy! today with Dan Patrick as host. The format is the exact same as Jeopardy! but obviously only includes sports questions and answers. While contestants do compete for cash prizes, they do not receive the amount answered for each question but instead are awarded cash based upon their standing at the end of the show, with $5,000 going to the winner.

Patrick appears to be an excellent selection, as the longtime sports personality keeps things simple, doesn’t distract attention with odd references, constant hand gestures and pathetic inferences (yes, I’m looking at you, Chris Berman).

Sports Jeopardy! is definitely worth checking out.
